Day 4: to Leadville

We started the day with a quick ride to a viewpoint where we could look at the ski resort, and the Crested Butte peak. The day turned out to be the best day of riding yet on the trip.

We then headed to a small mining town called Tin Pot. There we visited an old graveyard with some gravestones from back in the 1800's. Some pavement riding and we crossed the continental divide. After that on the dry side of the mountains we drive through a town Buena Vista, and back on dirt road. There we saw a Burro race.

Then we hit some really fun dirt trails with lots of bumps. There was a fun water crossing. Lots more dirt roads and we got to where the chase van was, with a good snack, and good view.

More dirt roads, and we hit another pass. Our guide lay down in the grass for a rest while we waited for the van to catch up. We all followed his example.

more dirt roads, then pavement and we arrived at Leadville, over 10,000 feet, the highest city in the US. We stayed at the Delaware hotel, built in 1880. The furnishings seemed like the originals from the 1800's.this was a great day. Varied types of dirt riding made it fun.
