Day 6: to Grand Junction

Today was our final day on the bikes. We left the Electric Mountain Lodge and headed out of n dirt roads. We had a coffee break in a small town, then back to dirt roads. We had some rain, fairly hard at times, and some thunder. Interesting fact, motorcycle riders are not protected from lightening like passengers in a car are.

We topped out on dirt roads on Grand Mesa, the highest mesa in Colorado at 10,000 feet. Here is a panoramic shot from up on the mesa.

Almost the end of the trip. Still smiling!

This is the view from the tip of Grand Mesa, referred to as Lands End. That's Grand Junction way out in the distance and about 5,000 feet lower.

Here is a zoom in on Grand Junction

this is a building built at the tip of the mesa by WWI veterans as part of the WPA in the 1930's.

They also built this gravel road that zig zags from the mesa down to the valley. It is 10 miles long and drops 5,000 feet in elevation in those 10 miles. There are a lot of curves on that road.

Here we are going down the gravel road, which is carved out if the side of the rock near the top.

Here we are returning our rented bikes to Rogue Moto in Grand Junction. The end of a fantastic trip.
