Day 7: Back to Grand Junction
Todsy was our last day on the motorcycles. Right after breakfast we did an out and back on the south side of the Colorado River, almost to a place called Chicken Corners. This was a mostly dirt road ride that turned into Jeep trail.
After our morning out and back ride we gassed up in Moab and headed to Grand Junction. The map says an hour and 40 minutes via interstate. We did it via back roads as much as possible, and the trip took a bit over three hours. We stopped at the town of Cisco. Almost all the buildings are now ruins. There is a general store that sells souvenirs, many of them Thelma and Louise themed. Most importantly for us is they had a freezer with ice cream. So be we took an ice cream break. There are also various sculptures etc such as a Caddiliack buried in the ground next to a small rocket and a welded up robot sitting in a chair.
After our ice cream break in Cisco we hit the road again and got to Grand Junction at about 3:00pm. We turned in the motorcycles, cleaned up in our hotel rooms, and were at a Mexican restaurant for dinner by 5:39pm before our various Sunday morning flights home. It was a great trip, lots of beautiful scenery, and very good company.
