Trip Overview & Video

This trip is a group of six guys who are doing a self-guided motorcycle ride through parts of Colorado and parts of Utah. We fly into Grand Junction Colorado where we will pick up our rental motorcycles. We will all be on single cylinder dual sport bikes, 300cc, 400cc, and one 450cc. There is no support truck or guide. The company we are renting from, Rogue Moto (https://roguemoto.co)in Grand Junction, has planned routes for us. We will carry our luggage on the motorcycles. We will be focusing on two regions. The first is the San Juan mountains near Ouray Colorado. The second is Moab Utah. We will stay three nights in each of these town and will ride two 1-day loops out from these towns, and back to the same town we started in.
We will start in Grand Junction, and the first day will ride to Ouray. Then, two days of loops out of Ouray. After that we will ride to Moab Utah, where we will have two days of loops. Finally we will ride from Moab Utah back to Grand Junction Colorado, turn in our rental motorcycles. And, then fly home to New England the day after.
The map above has our routes in Google Maps. There are lots of "pins" or waypoints near Ouray in the lower right and also Moab at the left. Where there are a lot of pins are where we will be doing daily loops.
We will cover about 850 miles on this trip. About 40% to 50% will be dirt roads.
Post-trip Video.
Here is a compilation video Christian edited and made after we got back. You will notice a folk song as the background. It's a song some folk singers were singing one night in Moab at an event celebrating use of public lands. Christian recorded their performance and added it as background music to the video. The song was about the "Dewey Bridge" which was built in 1916 and was an important link across the Colorado River. It was damaged and the wood portion burned in 2008 due to a brush fire, which may have been started by a boy playing with matches. Below are before and after pictures of the bridge. Look for the bridge at the very end of Christian's video as we cross the modern bridge next to it. The suspension cables and metal towers are still there.
